Kansas Wetlands Education Center
George Stumps Nature Trail
Take a leisurely stroll through the woods next to the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. Here you’ll see signs of wood rats, orioles, foxes, and other wildlife that live nearby the Center. In the fall, migrating monarchs stop-over before continuing their long journey to Mexico. Wintering songbirds are attracted to the feeders near the trail head.
The trail head is located at the west end of the Center’s parking lot. Looping a little more than a quarter-mile, the level-paved trail is wheelchair accessible. Relax on a bench, while enjoying the sight and sounds of nature. The trail, sponsored by Ducks Unlimited, is a memorial to George Stumps. George believed in doing what he could to improve the habitat for wildlife while working with Ducks Unlimited. In Kansas, Ducks Unlimited members have helped conserve more than 17,000 acres. |
