Family Engagement Advocate

Program Outline:

Some parents are struggling with an out-of-control teenager and others report issues such as talking back and not obeying the rules. Parent Project is designed for these situations and everything in between.

Everyone is welcome – even parents of adult children.

Parent Project consists of one class a week for eight consecutive weeks from 6 to 9 p.m., usually on Tuesdays. There is no cost; participants receive class materials and dinner.

In addition, we offer guidance not only during classes but before and after too. Our family engagement advocate is always here.

We encourage attendance at all sessions because the evidence-based curriculum is structured and each class builds on the ones before.

Goals/Issues

            Our goals are:

  • Reduce family conflict
  • Reduce juvenile crime
  • Reduce recidivism
  • Improve school attendance and performance

Critical issues addressed are:

  • Arguing and family conflict
  • Poor school performance
  • Truancy and dropping out
  • Media influences
  • Early teen sexuality
  • Drug use
  • Youth gangs
  • Teen violence and bullying
  • Runaways

Curriculum

Changing Destructive Adolescent Behavior (CDAB) is the only curriculum actually created by parents; more than a half million parents had input into this unique program.

It has become a favorite of middle and high school educators.

CDAB addresses the critical issues parents face today and offers concrete, step-by-step solutions. It is not just a theory – it works.
