Radium Rd Arkansas River Bridge Repair

Work will begin on Monday, Aug. 28th, on a bridge repair project on SW 50 Avenue, which is commonly referred to as the Radium blacktop.  The bridge crosses the Arkansas River approximately 1 mile south of US-56.  The work will be done on one lane at a time so traffic can continue to get through the construction area on the adjacent lane.  Traffic signals will be set up at both ends of the bridge and concrete barriers will be placed along centerline to keep vehicles out of the work area.  There will be a maximum load width of 10 feet so wider loads will need to find an alternate route.  L&M Contractors will remove the asphalt from the top of the concrete bridge deck, chip out deteriorated areas in the deck and place new concrete, and then construct a 1.5 inch concrete overlay over the entire deck to create a new wearing surface.  L&M hopes to complete all work by the end of 2017 if weather conditions don’t cause any serious delays.  Motorists are asked to obey the traffic signals, and to expect delays of up to 5 minutes in the work zone.
